The Flying Saucer

E-mail Print PDF
Finished work and a few office collegues decided that it would be great to an have a few drinks at the "Flying Saucer" pub. Well I have not been to a pub in a while, and certainly never heard of an alien named one at that :)  . After giving me directions I made my way there , expecting to see this circular metalic shaped building, but in place found a normal looking building.SunsetSkyThat is when I found out why it was so named - Once inside the pub, it is plastered on the walls, ceilings and basically anywhere that is viewable with Saucers (plates). Was a great place - and certainly a huge variety of beers and other beverages. Unfortunately the amount of smoke was just too much for me to stay longer than about an hour. As I walked out there was the sun starting to settle just behind the horizon. I tried to get to a vantage point to take a picture , but alas was unable to get there before the colours had disapated. I did manage however to capture this shot while in the traffic waiting for the lights to change.

Sculpture of Children

E-mail Print PDF

Whilst driving through a small village north of Charlotte, I went past this garden center and spotted this fantastic sculpture. Initially I was not sure what it was made from,so after thinking about it, 5 minutes later Children SculptureI drove back and stopped to capture a picture. I believe it is made from a brass/copper metal (extreemly heavy), yet the end result of the sculpture looks very pleasing to the eye. The characters portrayed of the children is an excellent representation of having fun and typical that you would expect from adventerous kids.

I think it would be great if placed crossing a stream in your back garden ...I can only wish I had a stream in my back garden, although the ticket price , did put it out of my affordability level at this current stage. :)

Back to what Works best

E-mail Print PDF
Well that was fun.... I had forgotten my password access to manage my site - so after a few um's and er's I decided I would try a few other CMS systems to test whether I could use it better than Joomla- As you can probably see I am back to the Joomla as the features and ease of use is much better than any alternatives. I will be setting this back up and trying to integrate the photo album , better than was before. I am still getting the hang of Sections and Categories, so please bare with me if you have any errors accessing any content - Feel free to leave a comment if you find errors so that I may correct them, or any ideas which may make the site more friendly. Thanks

It finally Arrived

E-mail Print PDF

I received a wonderful telescope as an addition of tools to add to my photographic device collection. Of course as is usual with these types of devices, we had cloud cover for the first week, so it was use really as a terrestrial “super duper” zoom lens. This was when I discovered that the focal length of my Camera and the Telescope, did not quite meet and therefore any photos I attempted to make were always blurry and out of focus. After a lot f helpful comments from people I ended up using a Barlow Lens and attaching it to the "T-Adapter" and am now able to focus correctly, but at 2X the zoom. This is great for terrestrial objects as taking pictures of static items is fine as they are static, BUT, when you start trying to capture the stars, moon and planets, the earth rotates and any long exposure times (even a few seconds), is shown in your photo. Any stars look like lines of light - rather like taking a picture of a fast moving car at night. Tracking MotorTo resolve this issue the telescope must be fitted with a tracking motor which will rotate the trajectory of the telescope to counteract the motion of the earth, so as the earth rotates east, so the motor will rotate the telescope in a westerly direction. This way when you take time exposed pictures of the night sky, you should not see any movement in the stars. Well after almost 2 months of this being on order, the motor finally arrived. I have attached to the telescope, and now waiting for a cloudless night so I can test it out( so look out for a few pictures to come shortly of the celestial sky)
